Meet other families who “get it” to share stories & strategies
In early 2007, my oldest son was diagnosed with food allergies at 14months. Our entire lives have changed since then. As time has passed, his diagnosis has grown from being allergic to egg to now being diagnosed with allergies to egg, wheat, dairy, pork, peanut, dog and cat. We have slowly learned to adapt. We have had a few failures (I can remember my first attempt at wheat-less bread!) but we have had many more successes. I found myself searching and searching, trying to not re-invent the wheel every time a new issue appeared. I started to accumulate information but still found it nearly impossible to make contact with other families going through the same situation. Isolation plays a huge roll in the lives of people with food allergies when we live in a society where every event, every get together, every outing involves food. Most of us can probably relate to a time when we had to turn down an invitation because we needed to keep our kids safe or we didn't pack food in advance. Spontaneity is a luxury we can't afford. So, here I am; a mother of two little boys, wife to a supportive, all-around-great-guy, a former teacher and now stay at home mom. I put together this group to reach out to other families, to help others find information, to lend an ear to frustrated parents, to get help, to give help and maybe have a little fun. -Sarah
